Allied Health Professions – your 5th choice for UCAS?
9th October 2020
As the deadline for medicine applications approaches (15th October 2020), some of you might be asking what to pick for your 5th choice for UCAS? If you are considering medicine as a degree, you are only allowed to pick four medical schools. However, there are still many great healthcare options for your 5th UCAS choice. Be sure to give some thought to other medical careers such as the allied health professions (AHPs).
Below are some reasons why you should consider an AHP as your 5th choice…
- AHPs aren’t doctors or nurses but still work directly with patients, diagnosing and treating a variety of conditions. As an AHP you could make a huge difference to patients’ lives!
- Qualified allied health professionals are in demand all over the country. They have excellent employment and progression opportunities and can expect great starting salaries, working conditions and job satisfaction.
- Many allied health professionals work 9 to 5, and those who don’t still have reasonable, predictable hours. It’s rare for an allied health professional to work shifts or be on call. So, it’s perfectly possible to keep a healthy work/life balance.
- Additional funds are available to support people training for some health professions, including AHPs. More information here… https://www.iseethedifference.co.uk/the-recent-bursary-for-health-courses-explained/
